The Motor City's Mitch Ryder came out of the streets of Hamtramck, where he sang backup for a local group called The Peps. He left the group due to racial tensions and started fronting his own group. In the early 1960's he was fronting Billy Lee & The Rivieras when he attracted the attention of record producer Bob Crewe. Bob renamed the band Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels and started releasing the bands records. The band had a string of Top Ten hits including "Jenny Take a Ride", "Little Latin Lupe Lu", "Devil with a Blue Dress On", and "Sock It To Me-Baby". Mitch went solo in the mid 1960's but never really matched the commercial success of the Detroit Wheels era. He remained on independent labels during the late 1970's early 1980's until John Cougar Mellencamp produced the Never Kick A Sleeping Dog album for Mitch's major label return. This show comes from the tour to promote that album. So download this one to here Mitch rip through a set of his 60's & 70's classics along with new tracks, of note is the performance of "Bow Wow Wow" a song he had recorded with Detroit band Was(Not Was).
